The R125 & R32 Refrigerant Gas Online Detector is an explosion-proof, Ex-rated gas detector. Built to perform reliably in harsh industrial environments, it withstands moisture, dust, dirt, corrosion, and vibration.

Certified to IECEx and ATEX standards, the detector offers equipment protection levels of Intrinsic Safety "ia" and Flameproof "db", ensuring safe operation in hazardous areas commonly found in refrigeration plants, HVAC systems, chemical facilities, cold storage etc.

Utilising a pluggable, fixed-type sensor, it allows for simple maintenance post-installation and delivers continuous real-time monitoring of flammable and toxic gases—specifically R125 and R32 refrigerants. Standard outputs include 4-20mA, RS485, 1 relay output (expandable to 2), voltage (1~5V), and HART communication. Optional wireless transmission options include LORA and 4G.

The unit features a robust die-cast aluminium housing with an option for Stainless Steel 316, designed for maximum durability in Ex-rated zones. A magnetic wand interface enables safe menu navigation without opening the enclosure—ideal for hazardous areas.

R125 and R32 are flammable refrigerants, and early detection is crucial for leak prevention, fire safety, and compliance. This detector ensures proactive safety management by continuously monitoring air quality for any trace of these refrigerant gases.

Introduction to the SG100 Ex Diffusion Explosion Proof Gas Detector

  • Commercial Refrigeration Plants

Cold rooms, walk-in freezers, and display cases.

Detect leaks from evaporators, compressors, or valves containing R448A (a popular low-GWP replacement for R404A).

    Compliance with EN 378, AS/NZS 5149 and F-Gas regulations.

  • Mechanical Equipment Rooms / Chiller Rooms

Monitors ambient air around compressors, heat exchangers, or piping.

R32 and R125 are flammable (A2L), so early leak detection is critical to avoid accumulation and ignition risks.

  • Industrial HVAC Systems

Found in large commercial buildings, factories, hospitals, and airports using R32 split systems or R125-based blends.

Detectors often integrated with ventilation systems to trigger extraction or shutdown.

⚠️ Why Detection is Important

R32 and R125 are A2L classified – mildly flammable.

R448A is a blend (R32, R125, R134a, R1234yf, R1234ze) – has global warming potential but lower than R404A.

Leaks can lead to:

  • Asphyxiation in confined areas
  • Fire or explosion hazards (R32/R125)
  • Environmental impact and legal non-compliance
  • Damage to refrigeration equipment and product loss

  • AS/NZS 5149 Series – Refrigerating Systems and Heat Pumps – Safety and Environmental Requirements
AS/NZS 5149.1–4 outlines design, construction, installation, and operation.

Mandatory gas detection is required in machinery rooms or enclosed areas where refrigerant leaks may occur.

    Requires:
  • Detectors calibrated to alarm at 25% of the Lower Flammability Limit (LFL) for A2L gases like R32 and R125.
  • Alarms, ventilation activation, and system shutdowns when thresholds are exceeded.

    🔹 AS/NZS 60079.10.1:2022 – Explosive Atmospheres – Classification of Hazardous Areas
Relevant where R32 or R125 leaks could create hazardous gas zones.
  • Requires area classification, zoning (Zone 1 or 2), and use of certified IECEx/ATEX gas detectors in those zones.
  • Hazardous area documentation and zoning drawings are legally enforceable for compliance.
